The Object of the Game

In Craps you bet on the outcome of the dice, that you, the "shooter," throw or roll. You are permitted to bet that the shooter will win, that the house will win, and you can bet on the numeric outcome of both dice.

How you play

To start the game, when you are the shooter, you must make what is called a Pass Line or a Don't Pass Bar bet before you roll the dice.

• Pass Line- If you roll a 7 or an 11 on the first roll, this is considered an automatic win. If you roll "craps" (2, 3 or 12) this is an automatic loss. When you throw any other combination, besides a 7, an 11 or craps, then you will make a "Point". This means that you are now betting that the number you just rolled, the Point, will come up again before a 7 is rolled. And if it does, then you win.

• Don't Pass Bar- This is when you are betting on the opposite of the Pass Line. If you throw a 7 or an 11 on the first roll, it is considered an automatic loss, and it is a win if you roll a 3 or a 12. A 2 is a stand-off and you will not win or lose. If you do throw something besides a 7 or 11 or craps, you will make a "Point". When this happens, it is the exact opposite of the Pass Line. In other words, now you are betting that you will roll a seven before the number that you just rolled. If this happens, you win.

• Pass Line Odds- Once the point has been established, you can increase your line bet by taking odds. This means that you are now going to bet additional money that the point, or the number that you just rolled will come up again before a 7 is rolled. If this happens, you win. This type of bet is placed directly behind the original line bet. Each point will pay different odds. This is different than the original pass line bet. An unresolved Pass Line Odds bets may be removed.

Default Payout:
4 and 10 - pays - 2 to 1
5 and 9 - pays - 3 to 2
6 and 8 - pays - 6 to 5

• Don't Pass Bar Odds- Once the point has been established, you are allowed to increase your line bet by taking odds. What this means is you are now betting additional money that you will throw a 7 before the point, or the number you just rolled. If this happens, you win. You place a Don't Pass Bar odds bet on the right side of your original bet in the "Don't Pass Bar". A Don't Pass Bar odds bet pays true odds when you win. An unresolved Don't Pass Bar bet can be removed.

• Come- This bet is considered even money. For example, if you bet $1, you get $1 when you win. The main difference between the Pass Line and a Come Bet is that you make a come bet once the point has been established on the Pass Line. Once you make a come bet, the first roll of the dice will establish the Come point. If you happen to roll a 7 or an 11, you will automatically win. However, if you happen to roll a 2, 3 or 12 on the first roll, then you lose.

• Don't Come- A Don't Come bet is basically the same as "Don't Pass Bar bets, but these are made after you make a bet on a "Don't Pass Bar", and a point is then rolled. You can then back up your bet by laying the odds on the Point, or betting against the shooter.

• Come Odds- After the come point has been established, you are able to increase your line bet by taking odds. What this means is you are now betting that the number that you just rolled will "come " up again before a 7 is rolled. If this happens, you will win. This come odds bet is placed directly under your come bet in the box that matches the come point, such as a 4, a 5, a Six, an 8, a Nine or a 10. A winning come odds bet will pay true odds. An unresolved come odds be may be removed unlike the original come bet.

Default Payout:
4 and 10 - pays - 2 to 1
5 and 9 - pays - 3 to 2
6 and 8 - pays - 6 to 5

• Don't Come Odds- A Don't Come Bet is basically the same as a "Don't Pass Bar" bet, but these are made after you have made a bet on the "Don't Pass Bar", and a Point is rolled. Then you can back up your bet by laying the odds on the point, or betting against the shooter.

Default Payout:
4 and 10 - pays - 1 to 2
5 and 9 - pays - 2 to 3
6 and 8 - pays - 5 to 6

• Place Bets- The Place Bets are made on numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, and these have nothing to do with the Point Number. Once it is made, a place bet is always on. A Place bet will be determined in this way: If a 7 is rolled before your Place number, then you lose. If your Place number is rolled before a 7, then you win.

Default Payout:
4 and 10 - pays - 9 to 5
5 and 9 - pays - 7 to 5
6 and 8 - pays - 7 to 6

• A Place Lose Bet- This is a bet that 7 will be rolled before a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. A Place Lose Bet is located in the narrow, unlabeled bar just above the box with the corresponding number on the craps table, such as 4, 5, Six, 8, Nine, or 10. When Place Lose bets win, they are paid according to this default ratio.

Default Payout:
4 and 10 - pays - 5 to 11
5 and 9 - pays - 5 to 8
6 and 8 - pays - 4 to 5

• Buy Bets- When Buy Bets are made in the number 4, 5, 6 ,8, 9 or 10 they are similar to Place bets, but they have different, or true odds. Once again in this case you are betting that the shooter will roll your particular number before he rolls a 7. A Buy bet is determined in this way: When a 7 is rolled before your Buy number, you will lose. When your Buy number is rolled before a 7, you will win. On Buy Bets, the casino will charge a 5% service charge based on the value of your bet in multiples of $1. For example a $10 bet will cost you $11.

Default Payout:
4 and 10 - pays - 2 to 1
5 and 9 - pays - 3 to 2
6 and 8 - pays - 6 to 5

• Lay bets- A Lay Bet is the opposite of a Buy bet. In this case you are betting that the shooter will roll a 7 before your Lay number, which is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. When your Lay number is rolled before a 7, you will lose. When a 7 is rolled before your lay number, you will win.

Default Payout:
4 and 10 - pays - 1 to 2
5 and 9 - pays - 2 to 3
6 and 8 - pays - 7 to 6

• Big Six or Big Eight Bets- The Big Six or Big Eight Bets will pay even money when you win. When a 7 is rolled before a 6 or an 8, you will lose. When a 6 or an 8 is rolled before a 7, you will win.

• Hard Four or Hard Ten- The Hard Four Bets or Hard Ten Bets are different bets, but they are won in a similar manner and payoff the same way. A Hard Four can be rolled only one way, as a 2, 2 and a Hard Ten can only rolled one way as a 5, 5. In this case you are betting that the shooter will roll a Hard Four or a Hard Ten depending on what you chose, before 7, and before any other combination of four or ten. Both of these will pay 7 to 1.

• Hard Six or Hard Eight- The Hard Six Bets or Hard Eight Bets are different bets, but are also won in a similar fashion and will payoff the same way. A Hard Six can be rolled only one way, as a 3, 3 and a Hard Eight can only be rolled one way as a 4, 4. In this case, you are betting that the shooter will roll a Hard Six or Hard Eight, depending on the choice you made, before a 7, and any other combination of six or eight. Both of these pay 9 to 1.
