Chinese Poker Rules

Each player in the game is dealt 13 cards. The object then is to arrange these cards into 2 hands with 5 cards and one hand with 3 cards, to beat the hands the other players have. These 3 hands are said to be a "back" hand of 5 cards, a "middle" hand of 5 cards, and a "front" hand of 3 cards. The back hand must beat the middle hand, and the middle hand must beat the front hand. If they do not meet this criteria, a player must pay a penalty to each of his opponents. There are only 3 types of hands that are possible for a front hand- 3-of-a-Kind, a pair, and a high card. Straights and flushes typically do not count. (this is explained below with Clean Sweeps.) You can click on each card to make a selection from the 13 cards, and then make the card part of your front, middle, or back hands.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Say you're dealt the following cards:

You could arrange them like this:

Front hand Middle hand Back hand

With a straight flush as a Back hand, this beats the middle hand of 4-of-a-Kind, which in turn beats the front hand, 3-of-a-Kind.

Game stakes are shown in dollars per unit. Once all of the hands are played, you compare your 3 hands against the three hands of the other players. For example, in a 4-player game, you make 3 separate comparisons against each other player.

You will win 1 unit for each of the corresponding hands of the other players that you beat and you lose 1 for each of the hands that beat you. When hands match in value, you do not win or lose. Here is an example.

Your back hand goes against the back hands each of the other players hold and it is middle vs. middle, and so on.

A vs. B
A will win against every hand.
A will win 3 units from B.
A vs. C
A will win the back, C the middle, and front.
C will win 1unit from A.
A vs. D
D will win the back, A wins the middle and front.
A will win 1 unit from D.
B vs. C
C will win against every hand.
C will win 3 units from B.
B vs. D
D will win the back and front, and B will win the middle.
D will win 1 unit from B.
C vs. D
D will win the back, C the middle, and front.
C will win 1 unit from D.
To tally these totals, A will gain 3, B will lose 7, C will gain 5 and D will lose 1.
